In the summer of 2015 Westcoast Outbuildings designed, fabricated, delivered and assembled this beautiful Salt Spring Island Modular Cabin.
Consisting of three modules once combined onsite it offered our clients 925 sq/ft of clean, simple and modern living space.
Deck by Local Contractor
Utilizing offsite Modular Construction techniques this building was built in our North Vancouver factory. At that same time as the modules were being fabricated a local Salt Spring Island contractor completed all the site works in preparation for our delivery.
The parallel construction process allowed for this building to be fabricated, delivered and installed with occupancy obtained in less than 90 days from CRD Building Permit Issuance.
Chilcotin Modular Cabin: A Remote Build with Significant Barriers to Construction
For years I’ve been wanting to push the boundaries of what we build, build something different, build something really remote, build something really cool.
Pushing the boundaries of design, location and material choices I’ve had a particular interest in RUST. Rusty Weathered Corten Steel siding that is.
Inspired by a recent article I saw on Inhabitat.com about a pair of Weathered steel and reclaimed wood-clad cabins on a Navajo reservation I made a post on our Facebook page “Please Lord, help me find a client that wants Corten Steel on their building!” I put it out there into the universe to see what we could find.
Just 4 days later I received an email from one of our recent clients who had referred one of her friends to us. It was the perfect project; an incredibly remote property in the heart of the Chilcotin Valley. The family had owned the 5 acre property for over 30 years but it has three major barriers to construction the last of which turned the families existing cabin into a pile of smoking ashes. Thanks for your interest in Westcoast Outbuildings, BC Leader in Small Structures.
As our company grows so does the size of our projects.
Late this summer we completed the supply and installation of a 912 sq/ft three module cabin to Salt Spring Island. It was a huge milestone for our company.
As we close out 2015 we’ve seen nearly 80% growth in our sales and the trend to larger multi-part buildings continues.
Right now in our North Vancouver Factory we have a stunning 660 sq/ft Modern Cabin under construction.
The building is so big it can’t be transported in one piece; to make this work we are building it in three separate modules that will be 95% complete when they leave our factory.
Once complete the 25′ long x 13′ wide modules will be carefully transported by truck and trailer via highway, BC Ferries, country roads and finally up a nearly 1.5 km long 1950’s logging road to their final destination.
It’s a VERY challenging delivery to say the least but we love the projects that other builders turn down!
These are exciting times for our company and the factory is all a buzzzz and a real hive of activity.
You’re Invited:
Before we ship out the modules in November we wanted to invite you down to our Factory for a tour of this NOT SO TINY cabin and see how our system works.
If you’ve been planning a project in your head or at the kitchen table with your family now is a great time to meet 1-on-1 time with our Team and discuss your modular or prefab building project.
Tours are being offered from 8:00 to 6:30 PM every day from October 21-31 (excluding Sunday’s)
To confirm a date and time that works for you please:

Some of you may have been following the recent sale we had for our Tradeshow Demo Unit.
Due to some changes in our business model we decided it was time to part ways with this beauty and pass her down to someone who could get more use out of it than we currently were.

Once the high bidder was selected it was time to start figuring out how to get this building to it’s new home on the Southern Shores of Saturna Island.
